OEM Data Consent Overview
What Is OEM Data Consent?
OEM data consent is a mandatory authorization step that enables OEMs to share data collected by your vehicle with Azuga or our data partners. This consent is required before Azuga can gain access to the telematics data stream for use in the Azuga Platform.
Please be aware that there are two types of consent:
- Fleet-level consent: This is blanket consent for any vehicle that is part of your fleet. Azuga’s End User License Agreement (EULA) contains terms that grant fleet-level consent as a part of any contract or order. For some OEMs, this is all that is required for the OEM Onboarding process.
- Vehicle-level consent: Certain OEMs require the owner (or leaseholder) to take a second step to explicitly grant consent for individual vehicles/VINs.
Vehicle-level Consent requirements vary based on the vehicle manufacturer (OEM). Please keep reading to understand consent requirements for different makes of vehicles.
Ownership Verification
Before the owner (or leaseholder) of a vehicle is authorized to consent to share data, the OEMs may require you to prove that you are the owner. In some cases Azuga will ask you to provide proof of ownership to which Azuga will present to our OEM data partners on your behalf.
Accepted documents include:
- Current registration
- Title or MSO
- Lease or purchase agreement
- Proof of insurance
- Bill of sale (if applicable)
These documents can be submitted to your account representative or to Azuga support. Please be sure to include your Customer ID and the VIN (which should be part of any of the above docs).
For some OEMs, proof of ownership will be automatically recognized if your organization has an OEM Fleet Account with the vehicle's manufacturer...
OEM Fleet Accounts
Some major automotive manufacturers offer special programs for commercial fleets to help manage their vehicle needs efficiently. Azuga refers to these programs as OEM Fleet Accounts.
When an organization enrolls in one of these programs, they will be provided a program account number that uniquely identifies their organization and makes accessing services and benefits easy and reliable.
This is especially helpful in streamlining the Vehicle Consent process because certain OEMs require proof that you are the owner of the vehicle and have the right to grant data sharing to Azuga. Please visit our Help Topic on Managing OEM Subscriptions in the Azuga platform to learn how to configure and manage your OEM Fleet Account IDs.
Vehicle Level Consent
Vehicle Manufacturers that require secondary, VIN-level consent include the following:
Ford
Vehicle or VIN-level consent is granted via the FordPro.com portal hosted by Ford Motor Company. The high-level steps for completing VIN-Level consent include:
- Adding your vehicle to your FordPro account if necessary
- Specifying a 3rd party "service provider" with whom you will your vehicle's data
- Completing the final step to "Add Consent"
Azuga requires the following information in addition to your Ford Fleet Identification Number (FIN):
- End Fleet Name (exact company name in the Ford portal)
- Fleet Admin Name, Email, and Phone Number
- Complete Company Address

General Motors (GM)
Vehicle or VIN-level consent for GM vehicles is completed on your behalf by Azuga. The process is slightly different depending on whether you have a GM Fleet Account.
If your fleet does have a GM Fleet Account Number (FAN), all you need to do is:
- Make sure the target vehicle is part of GM Program
- Configure your GM Fleet Account Number (FAN) in the Azuga platform.
If your fleet does not have a GM Fleet Account Number (FAN):
- Azuga will prompt GM to send your organization an email requesting authorization to share data
- Follow the instructions in that mail to complete the authorization.
- Please be aware that the link GM provides in the email will expire after 48h
- Azuga can re-initiate this process if the email link has expired
Azuga requires the following information in addition to your GM Fleet Account Number (FAN):
- Complete Company Address
- Fleet Admin Name, Email, and Phone Number
For detailed instructions on how to complete these steps and more GM-specific details, please visit our General Motors OEM help topic.
What Happens After Consent?
Once consent is provided:
- Azuga will verify the authorization with our OEM partners.
- Vehicle activation will be completed within 1–3 business days.
- Tracking should begin automatically in the Azuga portal — no further setup is required.
If you are experiencing problems issuing consent, getting an OEM-Connected vehicle subscribed, or data connectivity issues with an OEM-connected vehicle, please visit our Troubleshooting OEM help topic.
