Getting Started With OEM-Connected Telematics

Welcome! If you've chosen to move forward with OEM Embedded Telematics, you're on the path to a smarter, simpler fleet management experience. This guide outlines the key steps and considerations to help you get up and running quickly and confidently.

Overview: What to Expect

Azuga’s OEM-Connected Telematics uses factory-installed hardware to deliver real-time vehicle insights, and no plug-in devices are required. Once activated, data flows directly from the vehicle manufacturer to Azuga, giving you visibility into vehicle health, trip history, and driver behavior.

Your Path to Success

Whether you're onboarding new vehicles or upgrading from OBD plug-in devices, the process is simple and streamlined. Here's how to get started:

✅ 1. Check Vehicle Compatibility

Before anything else, confirm that your vehicles support OEM telematics. Compatibility depends on the make, model, year, and trim level.

Learn more about OEM Compatibility here.

✅ 2. Submit VINs for Confirmation

Send your VIN list to your Azuga representative. We'll verify which vehicles are eligible for OEM tracking and which may still require OBD devices.

✅ 3. Place Your Order

Once compatibility is confirmed:

  • Order OEM Embedded Telematics for eligible vehicles.
  • Order Azuga GPS devices for any vehicles that aren't OEM-compatible.

✅ 4. Complete Consent (if required)

Some manufacturers (like Ford and GM) require vehicle-level consent before data sharing can begin. Azuga will guide you through this quick process.

Learn more about OEM data consent here.

✅ 5. Activate and Track

After consent is complete:

  • Vehicles will appear in your dashboard, and tracking begins automatically.
  • In some cases, OEM account set up can take up to two business days.

Already Using Azuga OBD Devices?

If your vehicles are already on the Azuga platform:

  • Visit the OEM Subscriptions page in your dashboard.
  • Look for vehicles marked as “OEM Candidate.”
  • Place your order—no need to re-check VINs.

Learn more about the OEM Subscriptions page, including how you can export a list of OEM Candidates to swap from OBD devices to OEM.

Understanding Differences Between OEM and OBD II Devices

OEM-Connected vehicles use factory-installed telematics hardware, which can behave a little differently from Azuga’s plug-in GPS devices. Data may also vary across makes and models.

We work hard to offer you a seamless experience in the Azuga platform, but it’s important to understand any differences, especially if you’re managing a mixed fleet (some vehicles with OBD devices, others with OEM telematics). This will help set expectations around driver scores, event alerts, and trip reporting. Please see our help topic on this subject to see more specific details.
