Installation of AI SafetyCam:

Step 1: Associate the AI SafetyCam with your Vehicle

This step is crucial for ensuring the AI SafetyCam functions properly with the vehicle's network.

A. Access your Admin Account:

  • Begin by accessing the Fleet Mobile app (recommended) or the Fleet Web platform to initiate the setup.
  • For mobile, note the device IMEI.
  • For web, note the device serial number.

B. Follow Instructions:

  • Carefully follow the detailed instructions provided in the “SafetyCam – Vehicle Association” document.

C. Confirm Association:

  • Ensure that the AI SafetyCam is successfully linked to the vehicle before proceeding to the next steps.

For more details, explore the complete SafetyCam - Vehicle Association guide.

Step 2: Power your AI SafetyCam

The AI SafetyCam must always be connected to a constant power supply.

There are two options to power your AI SafetyCam:

  1. By using the OBD-II port or
  2. By hardwiring it to the fuse box.
Note: Each power type requires a different method of installation.
Important: Do not connect the AI SafetyCam to a USB port, as it does not provide a consistent 12V power supply, especially when the vehicle is turned off.

Option 1: Power via OBD-II Port

Prepare for Connection:

  1. Ensure your vehicle is turned off.
  2. Choose an area with good network connectivity,
  3. Locate your vehicle’s OBD-II (diagnostic) port. It is usually found underneath the steering wheel.
  4. It may be exposed or hidden behind a panel.

Connect the AI SafetyCam to the Y-Cable:

  1. Plug the male end of the Y-cable into the vehicle’s diagnostic port.
  2. Connect the OBD-II device to one of the female ends of the Y-cable.
  3. Attach the connector end of the AI SafetyCam’s power cable to the other female end of the Y-cable.
  4. Connect the remaining end of the power cable to the AI SafetyCam to complete the setup.

Power On and Test the AI SafetyCam:

  1. Start and run your vehicle for 30–60 seconds to initialize the system.
  2. Allow the AI SafetyCam up to 5 minutes to establish a stable connection.

Manage the Cables:

  1. Once the AI SafetyCam is tested, run the power cable along the headliner of the vehicle.
  2. Route the cable from the A-pillar to the power source to ensure a neat and secure setup.

Option 2: Hardwiring to the Fuse Box

Refer to the document below for more information - Hardwiring AI SafetyCam to Vehicle Fuse Box - Installation Guide

Step 3: Check for Network Connectivity

  1. Ensure your AI SafetyCam is connected to a power source.
  2. Enter your PIN on the screen.
Note: Enter the default PIN 3333, to unlock the AI SafetyCam for the first time, or use your custom PIN for subsequent access.
  1. Check the touchscreen to see network connection bars. The connection is active when there is no X across the bars.
    1. If there is an X across the bars, the SIM may be fine, but you might be in a location with a poor network. When there is no X, the signal should be sufficient for all functions to run.

  1. If the network connection is active, then proceed with the next step.

Step 4: Adjust the Viewing Angles

Identify the mounting location of AI SafetyCam:

  • Inside the car cabin, on the windshield
  • Near the rear-view mirror
  • Place as high as possible
  • On the driver’s side

Note: Do not mount your camera yet. You will need to adjust the viewing angles of the camera first.

Important:

  1. Positioning must comply with applicable laws for relevant jurisdictions.
  2. When in storage, the AI SafetyCam battery may drain completely. Charge the device for an extended period using at least a 2A power source before turning it on or using.

Steps to adjust the viewing angles:

Tips:

  1. Ensure your vehicle is parked on a level surface.
  2. Confirm that the vehicle's parking brake is engaged, the ignition is on, and the door is closed.
  3. Clean and dry the windshield using provided alcohol wipes.
  4. Set the viewing angles of both the road-facing and in-cab lenses

  1. Attach the mounting bracket onto the AI SafetyCam. Once attached, the mounting bracket locks the AI SafetyCam into position.
  2. Press the touchscreen of the AI SafetyCam to view the PIN screen.
  3. Enter the default PIN 3333 to unlock the AI SafetyCam for the first time, or use your custom PIN for subsequent access.

  1. Press Live View and use the arrow keys to toggle between the road-facing and in-cab views.

  1. Use the special screwdriver included in the box to loosen the three security screws on the round side of the AI SafetyCam. Do not fully remove the screws.

  1. Adjust the road-facing lens by rotating the body of the AI SafetyCam, then adjust the in-cab lens by rotating the ring. Ensure all viewing angles are set correctly.

  1. Use Live View to confirm that both lenses are positioned in the correct directions. Toggle between views using the arrow keys.

Checklist for AI SafetyCam Placement and Viewing Angles:

Ensure the following when positioning the AI SafetyCam:

  1. A clear view of the road.
  2. A clear view of the driver’s upper body.
  3. The AI SafetyCam does not obstruct the driver's field of vision.
  4. The AI SafetyCam is placed within the vehicle’s wiper path to ensure the road-facing lens remains unobstructed by rain or snow.
  5. The in-cab lens is not blocked by sun visors, blinds, or mirrors
  6. If the AI SafetyCam does not capture the driver’s upper body, place it below the rearview mirror, as high as possible without obstructing its view of the driver.

Note:

  1. If using MV+AI, the driver’s upper body must be in view of the in-cab lens.
  2. Some jurisdictions have regulations that prohibit or restrict where objects can be placed on the windshield. Be sure to comply with applicable law.

Step 5: Mount your AI SafetyCam

  1. Remove the adhesive tape cover from the mounting bracket.
  2. Mount the AI SafetyCam onto the windshield in the desired position.
  3. Press the AI SafetyCam onto the windshield and hold for 30 seconds to ensure proper adhesion.
  4. Tighten the side screws to secure the AI SafetyCam in place.
  5. Once tightened, both lenses can be tilted forward or backward together, but not separately.

Step 6: Calibrate the AI SafetyCam Accelerometer

The AI SafetyCam contains internal sensors that detect risky driving events. Calibration of these sensors is required before use.

Before you start calibrating:

  1. The AI SafetyCam can only be calibrated when it is online.
  2. Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface, the ignition is off, and the AI SafetyCam is online.
  3. If you are in a hilly area, move the vehicle to the flattest area possible.

Steps to Calibrate:

  1. Turn off the vehicle ignition.
  2. Check that the AI SafetyCam is ON.
  3. Press the touchscreen of the AI SafetyCam to view the PIN screen.
  4. Enter the default PIN 3333 to unlock the AI SafetyCam for the first time (or your custom PIN if previously set).

  1. Press Settings.

  1. Press Calibration
  2. The calibration process takes about a second. Once completed, the status changes from Not Done to Done.
Important: If the AI SafetyCam is moved to another vehicle, it must be recalibrated.

Step 7: Format your SD Card (Optional)

Formatting the SD card ensures it is properly prepared for recording, prevents file corruption, and optimizes storage performance for the AI SafetyCam.

  1. Ensure that the vehicle is parked with the parking brake engaged, the ignition turned on, and the door closed.
  2. Tap the touchscreen of the AI SafetyCam to access the PIN entry screen.
  3. Enter the default PIN 3333 to unlock the AI SafetyCam for the first time. For subsequent access, enter your personalized PIN
  4. Press Settings.
  5. Select Format SD card to confirm the action when prompted.
Note: The AI SafetyCam comes pre-installed with a 128GB SD card.
